How to use Pantone's Colour of the Year 2023 - Viva Magenta - in your interior

How to use Pantone's Colour of the Year 2023 - Viva Magenta - in your interior

By Iona Bower on

After a sobering few years, we think we’re all ready for a splash of pure, colourful joy in our lives. Step out from behind the curtain… Viva Magenta! This vibrant, warm, unashamedly in your face shade has taken the fashion and beauty communities by storm and the colour gurus at Pantone Colour Institute expect the interiors world to follow suit.

Pantone’s colour of the year, Viva Magenta, is a classic hot pink and in colour terms, a pinkish, purplish red. Pantone describes it as “brave and fearless, a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.” Sounds like the sort of colour we’d like to have over dinner.

If you want something seriously punchy for your interiors scheme, a coat of Viva Magenta wall paint will definitely provide that. Prefer something just as jolly but less intense? You can achieve the same optimistic and fearless feel with varying tones of pinky purple to suit your space. Here are a couple of YesColours shades you might like to try…

Viva Magenta is everywhere and you can easily spot it in interior design trends, moodboards and colour combinations too. Our Loving Pink colour matches the Viva Magenta vibe perfectly and it's a great colour for an embracing and enticing bedroom or living room.

Loving Pink.

YesColours’ Loving Pink paint colour has a deeper saturation and deeper tone of pink than Viva Magenta but also a touch of blue to give it a purplish appearance.

What’s the vibe?
It’s vintage velvet cinema seats, boudoir glamour, and a big fat glass of red wine after a long day. A vibe you can't resist.

How does it feel?
With its loving energy and a bit of mauve sophistication, too, this one wraps you in warmth and comfort like cashmere. Some read it as a bit of a sexy shade, but mostly, we just see it as loving and kind.

Where can I use it?
This dark, rich burgundy paint colour is simply just made for the bedroom. It could be a lovely surprise inside a wardrobe or on a feature wall, but if it was us, we’d just drench all four walls and ceilings (don't forget the fifth wall too!) for a bit of glamour and high drama.

Our Loving Pink paint colour is dark, saturated, sexy... and yet, really sophisticated too. It's the closest shade we have to Pantone's Colour of the Year 2023 - Viva Magenta, and it's as trendy as it is timeless, too. Pictured here is one of the four themes we've created together with Habitat, capturing our 2023 trend predictions for interior and home decor. Passionate Pink.

One of the boldest paint colours in the YesColours palette, Passionate Pink, is perfect for those who want to embrace the lighter, brighter side of Pantone's Viva Magenta colour.

What’s the vibe?
It’s the fabulous awning on the Big Pink Restaurant building in Miami Beach, and the vibrant pinks of the flowers, houses and fabrics of Mexico. It also reminds us of the pink from the incredible 400,000 women from The Gulabi Gang. This is a colour that will take you places.

How does it feel?
Creative, brave and welcoming, our Passionate Pink paint colour just makes you smile. It has all the lightheartedness of bubblegum pink but with a cultural depth of a shade that wants to take you on a global journey, and you’ll definitely want to come along for the ride.

Where can I use it?
Use our Passionate Pink paint colour in creative spaces, such as your home office, to add vim and vigour to your work. Its welcoming warmth works well in hallways, too, bringing an instant grin to guests’ faces. It’s exceedingly good at glamming up small areas like a downstairs loo or an art studio as well. You could also make any neutral or dark space pop by using it as an accent on woodwork, windows and doors.
